 Flea Adulticides If you already have a flea infestation inside your home, you need an effective adulticide to control the population. With fleas, the key to successful, long-lasting treatment is to use an IGR like Flea Fix in conjunction with an adulticide. There are three kinds of insecticides that we recommend for flea treatment.
Suspend SC, with DeltaGard, is the best product available to kill adult fleas. To use this product, vacuum thoroughly first and dilute at the rate 1.5 oz. per gallon, and a gallon will cover 1,200 sq. ft. To dilute, add about half of the water, then the suspension, agitate, add the rest of the water and agitate well. You should spray all areas inside your home, and it is recommended that you spray outdoors as well. It is important that no pets or children contact the spray until after is is dry. Retreat in a week, if necessary. Suspend is also an excellent product for all types of roaches and spiders, among other insects. This product is labeled to be used throughout the house, including carpets and upholstery. Permethrin
SFR is another effective product that contains 37% Permethrin. Before application, vacuum carpets and furniture thoroughly. Dilute Dragnet at the rate of 1 oz. per gallon, and apply at the rate of 1 gallon per 1,000 sq. ft. Spray crawlspaces, rugs, carpets, pet beds and pet resting areas. Be sure to treat between and under cushions of upholstered furniture. Make sure the area is vacated until the spray is dry. Retreat in a week, if necessary. This product is labeled to be used throughout the house, including carpets and upholstery. Permethrin-10 is a multi-use insecticide that can be used indoors, outdoors, on dogs, and on animal premise. It is an excellent flea adulticide, and should be used in conjunction with an IGR like Flea Fix.
Permethrin offers up to 28 days residual activity. While you may spray it on dogs, you cannot use it on other animals. This product is labeled for spot treatments only.
Directions for Use For initial clean up of severe insect infestations, dilute at a rate of 6.7 oz. per gallon. For normal infestations, use 1.33 oz. per gallon. Do not hold dilutions for more than 24 hours. Make sure that the area is vacated until it is dry -- including pets. To dip dogs, dilute at the rate of 8 oz. per 12.5 gallons. Allow the animals to dry without toweling or rinsing. You may use it every two weeks if necessary.
