Troy, when folks ask "what the heck is this thing?", we know that they either have a house centipede or a Jersalem Cricket (pictured above). Actually, you have found a baby Jersalem Cricket, as they can be several inches long. At the size you are finding them, they probably cannot harm you, though they have very sharp mandibles.
