You have the right idea. Carpet beetles are not considered to be a plague, like bedbugs. They are fairly common, as the adults are nectar-feeders outdoors, and may inadvertently come indoors naturally. A house could have even a fair-sized, nondestructive carpet beetle infestation based only on shed skin flakes and hair from pets. As long as wool, silk and fur (and dry pet food) are protected from infestation, there isn't much chance of a problem developing.
