How much precaution should someone exercise when dealing with a varied carpet beetle infestation? Good friends of ours have had a bad infestation and are very worried about spreading to other people's houses where they visit frequently/ or hew come to their house often. They have had their house exterminated and now want us to the same. Other members of their extended family have found some larvae of these bugs and have also called an exterminator out of fear of spreading these bugs. We have found one larvae and a shaded shell in our house so far. I feel this bug might not have even come from our friend’s house in the first place. There are really pressuring us to exterminate before it gets out of control and reinfests there house again. From my research these bugs are not all that uncommon in small numbers and take a minimum of 9 months to reproduce. So a larva must survive 9 months and become an adult and then finds a mate before new generation of these bugs can hatch. Therefore keeping your house clean if one or two of there larvae are found should be an adequate solution. How many of these larvae would need to be found before getting professional help?
