I'm sorry that your granddaughter was bitten by that bug. Fortunately, it does not seem to resemble any known venomous insect. Did it by any chance resemble the illustration above? That is a "true bug," some species of which pierce other insects with their sharp proboscis, and might be able to injure humans.
I'm not sure exactly what bug bit her, but I would recommend using an antiseptic if the bite drew blood, even though there is little chance of infection. By the way, What part of the country are you in?
