I would examine one of the beetles with a magnifier. Compare it to the illustration in the article. With my background, I did feel in an instant that your beetle was a flour beetle, particularly because of the large numbers involved. Large numbers of small, weak-flying beetles are almost always an indication of an infestation. Chances are, there is one primary infested item which is spawning all these beetles. Your job is to find it! And, it may not be in the kitchen. Because this large beetle population will seek out new places to lay its eggs, it is important to eradicate them as soon as possible. While their activity may decrease over the winter, the possibility exists for a resurgence in the spring.
