Based on the article, it sounds like we may have the red flour beetle (since it can fly short distances), although I'm not convinced. Most of our pests are found around windows and high-moisture areas and like to hide underneath towels and things. We haven't seen any indication of infestation near food items whereas we see hundred of them dead by a basement window. We live in the northeast and, after talking to neighbors, are not the only house with this problem. Our houses are between 1 and 2 yrs old and we live near wetlands. Is it possible to "confuse" the confused red flour beetle with something else? : Good photo! It is, unfortunately, a common household pest, the Flour Beetle. These bugs can live for up to three years! They were probably attracted to the bathrooms by humidity. However, they are breeding in your food. Please read the article at the link below. Keep in mind that spraying does almost no good at all against this pest. You have to clean, clean, clean, and then protect your food from reinfestation.
