: In our vacation home in North East Wisconsin, for the last two years we have experienced bites that itch like crazy and are looking for what is causing them.

: The bites occur at night and are primarily located in the upper legs, stomach, chest, back and shoulder areas. All seem to be where covered areas of clothing were. Some have worse cases of bites than others exposed to nearly identical conditions and locations within the property. Location (which bed) doesn't seem to be a factor.

: The itch does not occur until about a day later. First there is what looks like a normal mosquito bite and then it grows to the size of a silver dollar. Very red with a slightly raised center and a dot (white or yellow) in the middle of the raised area.

: The itching continues for more than a week and is very strong (many magnitudes stronger than a mosquito bite). A discolored area on the skin continues for well over 6 weeks where the bite mark occurred.

: We have read similar complaints posted in this list which indicated bird mites, bed bugs, gnat bites, spiders, no see um's, and others.

: We have as yet to find the cause of these bites and would like your help as to what they are.

: We are in a wooded area, on the shores of Lake Mich., and have birds and wildlife in the area.

: So far, none of the symptons have occurred at our permanent home. Not everyone has been gotten the bites that have stayed at the vacation home.

: Thanks for your help!

It is possible that you are describing bedbug bites. Some people are more sensitive than others, so some get bit and don't get a reaction, others get bit and get a huge reaction. But the pimple like center and very intense and lasting itching is very classic. Some of the "bedbug"
posts below have some very good links. They are hard to find as they are small (for packing such a big punch). You can try looking in the seams of the mattresses, under the taped parts. If they are bedbugs, they are hard to get rid of and require peticide application to actually boot them out, Good luck
