Still being bitten!!!!!

I just spent the last 2 hours going through all the archives on this site reading every message about being bit by an unseen bug and was not encouraged by either the advise or the success (or lack of) stories.

We are being eaten alive by something that we have yet to see or feel untill the itching starts. The bites resemble those of a mosquito and occur between the knees and the neck with intense itching that seems to come and go. When the swelling goes down they become a small red bump, but can still itch. Occasionally they appear in a cluster of 3 or 4 bites under a wasteband or my wifes bra.

We seem to get bit at all hours of the day and night and it's not isolated to only one or two areas of the house. I have checked all around the bed and matress for signs of bed bugs- nothing. I set out a hot water bottle wrapped in a damp cloth to attract bird mites- nothing.

The only thing that I have seen that could cause this is what I believe to be midges or no-see-ums. We have quite a few in the house. They are dark in color, about the size of a gnat and move very quickly. I looked at one under a magnifying glass and it certainly looked like the pictures I have seen, but everything I have read indicate that they usually don't bite indoors and being a flying insect I don't see how they could concentrate their activity under our clothing and especially under waistbands and other tight fitting areas.

I currently have about 15 bites and my wife is nursing around 25. We could deal with it if we knew that whatever it is will cycle itself out and dissappear in a couple of weeks but some of the horror stories I've read talked about years of infestation.

Is there anyone out there in "Bug-Land" that can clearly identify what we have and offer a way to get rid of them? I'm about ready to buy about a gazillion foggers and set them off in every room but I really would like to know what we are up against and from what I have read, the foggers don't help much. In fact, I don't recall reading even one success story involving a pest control company or their products.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what has invaded our home and a way to verify it. We have ruled out bed bugs and bird mites.

Is it possible that it could be the midges, or does the fact that we are being bit indoors and the location of the bites, rule them out. Enough people have been plauged by this unseen invader that one would think that there should be some concrete, reliable information floating around somewhere.
