My wife and I have been fighting some kind of biting mite for about two weeks. We live in a beach community in eastern North Carolina. We have spayed, bombed, cleaned and vacuumed repeatedly. We have also prayed and had others praying for us hoping God would either rid us of this menace or show us how. I mixed up some vinegar, salt and water and sprayed it everywhere (like the folks from this web site suggested). It smelled like our house was being picked. It helped a little, I slept one night without being bitten but my wife was not so lucky. However, the next day we were both bitten again and I just sat and spayed my legs with the solution while I scratched the invisible varmints.
I called the exterminators and they said they couldn’t exterminate something they can't see. I called a house cleaning service that thought maybe I had dust mites, lice or scabies. But my wife is a nurse and has dealt with the lice and the scabies and I have never been allergic to dust and I read that dust mites don't bite.
Then I read about Kleen-em Naturally and some success other had using it to rid their house or yard of pests. I bought some and mixed it up with water and spayed it everywhere and on me (it's a natural enzyme that you can even bath in). Anyway, it seemed to help for a while but the next day I sat again on the couch dosing myself with this stuff while the invisible pest bit me in spite of my every attempt to kill them.
Some one said on this web site that they are probably bird mites and I saw a bird nest of baby birds in a tree near our house. My guess is that after a three-day period of rain, some of the mites washed down and either we brought them in or the cat brought them in. In either case the cat has been banned from the house, maybe forever.
Now getting back to the story, on Friday, two weeks from the initial infestation, we decided in the morning that we would move out and wait for cold weather to hopefully kill them off. Then I remember something my mother had told me about a bad roach problem she had and how she dealt with it. I remember she bought some 20 mule Team Borax, a simple laundry detergent additive and spread it out on her counters which worked to kill the roaches. I believe the active ingredient is Boratic acid although I could find that on the box. Anyway I bought a box and shook it out everywhere, especially on the carpet in front of the coach. I know you are probably not going to believe this but the relief was immediate. It was like you could fell the little invisible things jump or crawl on you but they would jump right back off. I even sprinkled some on my legs (which helped even more).
My wife and I could finally sit on our coach like normal person again watching the boob tube and arguing about the sad shape of things in world instead of the sad problem of pests in our house. It was our first good night's sleep in two weeks.
I hope you kind find this stuff. It's in our grocery store next to the laundry detergents. 20 mule team Borax (since 1891). It's not a product that gets a lot of publicity but I hope they never stop making it!
