house centipedes...HELP!!!!

hey - i have just moved into a new apartment, and have discovered the most terrifying brown creatures with a billion legs share my living space with me. i have found out that they are house centipedes, but i am scared TO DEATh of the them, and MUST get rid of them. please please please there must be somebody out there who knows a sure way to get rid of them. HELP
