: : : : : : Have you gotten anywhere on this problem? My husband and I are going thru the exact same thing!!! Someone told us to exterminate for spider mites, but we also have seen NO evidence of anything.

: : : : : : Any information would be helpful!!

: : : : : What you are experiencing is the wonderful sand flea... we have them all over in Texas... here is part of a article I found:
: : : : : The sand flea is Beaufort's most popular unwanted guest. Many names are given to this micro vampire, such as No-see-ums,
: : : : : punkies, gnats and numerous other four letter words I won't mention. It is hard to believe an insect only 1/10th of an inch in size is capable of such an annoying bite. The bite of a sand flea is actually a sting and the effects can be felt for hours. A small reddish or whitish welt,
: : : : : about the size of a freckle is a sure sign you have become a sand fleas feast.
: : : : : Often, one encounters hundreds of sand fleas at one time and will receive many bites...
: : : : : as the sand flea loves to share its meal with all its many hungry friends.
: : : : : Sand flea dinner time is most of the time, especially around the morning and evening hours.
: : : : : Their tiny size allows the sand flea to enter homes through the smallest of window screens.
: : : : : Incandescent lights seem to attract larger numbers of sand flea into homes.
: : : : : Sand flea encounters are most often around marsh and sandy areas, although they seem to be plentiful everywhere else. If you have many tiny insects swarming around you, and can hardly see them... you are about to become dinner for the sand flea.

: : : A way to combat the sand fleas is to spray deet... but your local Orkin Pest control may have a better alternative for inside of the house. Here in Texas sand fleas are very small (smaller than the tip of a ink pen) whitish almost translucent (or see-thru)... they are very hard to spot. And tend to bite in the moist areas- under arms, around panty lines... anywhere there is sweat.
: : : The 10-Hour Insect Repellent
: : : Contains 100% DEET, which is the active ingredient in The 10-Hour Insect Repellent, and contains zero fillers. One application is that is required to protect user from biting insects for a ten hour period of time, according to manufacturer. Deet has been found by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to be the most effective agent to prevent insect bites and was developed in 1954 for use in the United States Army. Insects that The 10-Hour Insect Repellent wards off include black flies, mosquitos, fleas, ticks, no-see-ums, deer flies, sand fleas, gnats, chiggers, stable flies, horse flies, and bees (if not swarming).

: : Hi,
: : I saw a dermatologist today and while he's not sure (same happened to my fiance' when he went to a different doctor), he ruled out bed bugs because he says you'd most definitely see them or evidence of them. Ruled out sand and animal fleas. Ruled out almost everything except mites! Although he leans toward a virus causing the hives we consider bites, he said treating for mites can't hurt in the meantime (the tests won't be back for a week). He prescribed 5% Permethrin cream. Everyone in close contact with you or the household should be dosed according to directions, whether they itch or not. After dosing, put on only clothes that have been freshly cleaned in a hot wash. Then the house gets a thorough vacuum cleaning (I mean THOROUGH!! Nothing gets spared)and all else gets washed in hot water and dryer. All clothes, sneakers, bedding, etc. If it can't be washed, wrap it tightly in plastic sealed bags for two weeks (the mites will starve). Throw the vacuum cleaner bag out immediately.
: : There are two over the counter creams/lotions with this medication: Nix Derma Cream and Kwellada P Lotion, but it's just easier to get a prescription.
: : If sand fleas aren't your problem, you might bring this up to your doctor. The condition is called Scabies. The itching will take some time to go away, but this is supposed to rid you of new attacks. I'm skeptical but so desperate I'll try anything.
: : Good luck, hope this helps someone out there!

:
: I went through the whole cream and lotions, lindane, permertin, not once but 5 times, nothing helped me, I have just decided that I will have to live with this, I have had it over a year now.

Hi, I have lived with this for over a year also, I too have gone the skin cream way, with lindane (a very toxic posion) permetrin, nix, qwell, all together about 10 times, nothing works, I have sprayed, fogged, sprayed fogged again, nothing works, but the vinegar and salt helps a little, The itching and biting isnt as bad as the crawling feeling I have, it is in all my furniture I feel it in bed so that I have to take an antihistamine every night just to be able to sleep, I have been so depressed over this, it has ruined my life for the past year. I hope and Pray that we find out what this is and can find a cure. god bless you all
