crawdads, crawdads everywhere, help!

I have a somewhat damp area in my backyard that has pushed up wet mud around deep half dollar sized holes. There seems to be crawdads in the holes. No lakes or streams around but they are. How do I get rid of them before the dog breaks her leg in the holes?
