this is called a cicada killer, the females digging holes are capable of stinging if a hand or bare foot is put down upon them but normally they are not interested in people. Only food for there young, the cicada. In which they will stuff
into one of the holes that she has dug. The males hover around these holes waiting for a female to come out for a chance to mate. the males do not
