Sorry the last one was a bad typing error try this site I think it is what you arelooking for : http://www.si.edu/resource/faq/nmnh/buginfo/cickillr%20wasp.htm I have been trying to identify an insect that has been nesting in the ground in my garden and in my brick front landing that is big, black and orange but I would describe it as some type of large wasp - about 1 to 2 inches with wings that flicker. They don't seem to be aggressive towards me even when I fill in the many holes that they have dug around the bricks and in the garden. I have watched them as they carefully remove the sand the gravel when we have filled in the holes. I am also anxious to find out if these insects are potentially destructive (I've lost count of how many holes I now have on my brick landing, walkway, and garden (all of which are adjacent to my home). Second, if they are wasps will they sting? I have a child who seems to be a favorite target for any type of stinging insect so we have to be very careful to police our home to eliminate nests and hives as he is developing allergies to stinging insects. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!
