tiny, thin bugs with lots of legs

Can anyone help me identify a bug that has been showing up in our house. It is about 1/8 - 1/4 inch long, real skinny, black, lots of legs, and crawls quickly. I have found dead ones in the shape of a semi circle. I have found them in our kids' bathroom, one in the master bath, one on the kitchen counter, and on the living room floor. The dead ones I have seen have shown up on the carpet of the living room and family room, next to the baseboard. Also, when I swept the kitchen floor yesterday I noticed a few either dead ones or the "shell" of them. They were very light and "wispy." This is the first time we have encountered these. We built our house two years ago. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
