flying bugs in kitchen

We had this infestation of flying bugs a couple months ago. We found them in some oatmeal and threw everything out that was open. We had no more bugs until about a week ago. 1 here, 2 there, then I killed about 8 today. We looked through all the cupboards and found nothing. What our these bugs and how do we get rid of them. They are mothlike, about a halfinch long and leave a mess when squished. Thank you, Darold
