Brown Recluse Spiders

Could you please tell me how Brown Recluse Spiders typically get into a home. Do they come in above the ground through cracks in the windows, etc., or are they ground dwelling? I know we need to spray the outside of our house including windows and foundation, but should we also use the granuals to treat the outside within 10 feet of the house?
