Black Ants *in* Dishwasher (and nowhere else..yet)

Warm weather hit here last week. I opened my dishwasher about a day or two later and it was crawling with ants! The door had been shut tight from the last time i had opened it so i have no idea how they got in. I slammed it shut and ran the "hotter than h*ll" extra-super scrubbing cycle to eliminate them. Afterwards, I put the rest of the dishes in and washed everything properly. I emptied the machine - no trace of ants - and again shut the door tight. The next time i opened it, the ants were back! How on earth are they getting into a sealed area like that and how can i get rid of them? I've sprayed the area under the dishwasher and around it just to be sure, but i doubt that's the right area. BTW, the machine is 1 yr old and the kitchen is in a 70 yr old house.
