: : I'm looking for a control to eliminate night crawlers primarily in my lawn. I realise they're normally beneficial, but I have hundreds of them in roughly 700 sq. ft. of lawn. There isn't much left of the lawn and I plan on planting a new one. : Night Crawlers are earthworms. These are befeficial and do not eat grass. Sounds like you may have mole crickets. They eat grass. Look at our mole cricket article at www.e-bug.net/articles/mole_crickets.shtml : Sincerely, : Phyllis Teel There's no doubt they are night crawlers/earthworms. After watering the lawn area you can see them. They are feeding on decaying vegetaion I believe. I have removed all the garden debris however they are still a problem. The ground has been prepared and I hope to seed a new lawn soon. If the night crawlers remain they will destroy a new lawn. Specifically the problem is the mounds of soil they deposit on the surface. After watering the old lawn, I could easily pick up enough of the worms to fill a coffee can. i realise they are beneficial to the soil usually, but I'd prefer a lawn and would really appreciate any advice to kill the worms.
