Electronic plug-in bug repellents/or herbal repellents

Has anyone used the plug-in bug/pest repellents?
Do they work and really keep bugs and pests away
by emitting sound waves? Or is there a natural
repellent (leaves or herb) that I could set out
through the house and possibly in the yard that will
work to repell insects?
