Flordia's really pesky NO-SEE-UMS

Every time I'm here in Florida (west coast-Placida, that is between Bocca Grande and Englewood), I get attacked by NO-SEE-UMs. I only know them by this name! How can I protect myself against their nasty bite? I have tried many different ideas, but nothing seems to work. I have permanent scares from the last few years of their rage. Any suggestions?
