Ear wigs are slender and dark brown to black, but they have pincer like appendages on their posterior. These are some times held above their body when threatened. Ear wigs like moist areas, they are typically plant feeders but will eat any organic material. They require areas of high humidity. There may be water leaks, or other moisture problems contributing to the probelm. Consult your local extension office. If needed call a small pest control company in your area that is willing to address the cause of the problem and correct it with the least amount of chemical. Ask them to use non-toxic or least toxic materials. Go to Beyond pesticides service finder for a company in your area: I have been finding small black worms that have hatched under shelves in my closet, in my clothes under my waterbed, in papers, and on my carpet. I am wondering what they are and how to get rid of them for good. Could they be earwigs?
