Black jumping insects - eewwwwww

HELP! In my house I have found black bugs that have a hard "shell", they jump (gross) and they are about 3/4" long. I thought they were roaches, however, I cannot find pictures of them on the web. I am sure there are more - we just haven't found them yet. My son is allergic to roaches - which I never thought would be an issue. Does anyone know what these would be? What attracts them? (I think I keep a pretty clean house) And how do I get rid of them? Thank you.
