Little Brown Worms in Garage and House

Hi-

We live on Cape Cod in Massachusetts and I am finding little brown worms all over the garage and in the house. They eventually curl into a ring-like shape and die and then when you pick them up they break apart. They are very thin and no longer than an inch. What are they and how can I get rid of them? There are especially a lot of them in our garage, but I find at least a couple in our house each day too…on our bedroom rug, on our hardwood floor, in the bathroom…everywhere! Help!
