I live in a small apartment building in CA. I've lived here for 15 years. Never before have there been so many flies. The weird thing is that they're living in one large hibiscus bush that is also covered in white fly. There are so many black flies that the bush actually hums with them. There are hundreds of them on the cement below the bush and they all take flight when you walk by. There are also two small ornamental bushes at the bottom of my stairs with hundreds more. The only time I've see this before is when there was a dead bird in the bush, but this time that's not the case.
Any idea why there would be so many in a hibiscus bush? Does it have anything to do with the white flies? It's gross, creepy and disgusting.
I'm surprised that the large bird population hasn't eaten them. Do flies have any predators that eat them besides chickens? (We can't have chickens in this building).
Thanks for any ideas on getting rid of them.
