We have a water bed and several years ago I started getting bitten when I went to bed. They seemed to come out in the evening, because I was never bothered if I took a nap during the day. My husband is thick-skinned and not as sensitive as I. After a couple of years he suggested I see a psychiatrist. Then he started getting bitten. We called dust mite specialists, who couldn't really tell us anything, other than maybe we were tracking up insulation from the basement and it was getting in the bed. We took the bed apart and washed it all over with a chlorax solution. After a couple of days the biting mites were back again. We tried borax. Thank goodness my husband was finally feeling them, because he had a brainstorm - the water heater under the bed was incubating them! We turned off the heater and used thick quilts to sleep on top of for warmth. No more bed bugs.
These bugs were microscopic. We never saw them. I keep all my bedding in big plastic bins. I wash them with chlorax and hot water. We have cats who sleep on the bed, so I try to keep everything extra clean. But since we turned off the water heater under the bed, we've never been bothered with them .
