bugs in fridge

I took over an apartment building that has a refrigerator that was left with food and no power for I would image months. The stench is terrible and it is full of crawling bugs (not roaches). Where do I even start? There is still rotting moldy food inside and I fell like I need a gas mask to even open the box and if I do all of the bugs will go out into the apartment.
