: : Hi
: Well yesterday we found that the friend we were helping out nicely brought bed bugs into our apartment. Lucky for us it has only been like 2 weeks and we were just starting to be bit.
: Seeing as I live in Toronto the city of overkill if you have money I have paid for aggressive, over extermination . The work is apparently guaranteed for 6 months and after a week if we see bugs he comes in and does it again for free and that goes on until we have 6 bug free months.
: Anyhow I DO actually have a question, do blow dryers generate enough heat to kill the eggs? There are a couple of plush/fabric mementos that can't go in the dryer or waser we want to try and keep. (They are currently sealed in plastic bags while we watch to see if they end up crawling or not.)
: Also I would like to know cause that way I will also use it on my bed.
: For everyone who has this problem remember 2 things. When in doubt, toss it out. (Yes I know that gets expensive but one day you will be able to get nice things again and be bug free.)
: The second, seeing as violence can not solve this problem you must use the back up solution 'over the top, fanatical, completely off its *opps cant say that word* aggression and hatred'. : Hi , I perfer nuclear, but it is messy
so that leaves a hair dryer
I build hot boxes (rubbermaid 42 gallon tubs with lids work great) then I buy a vidal Sassoon hair dyer (indestrutible ) I put the hair dryer in the box under a cage or pile bricks around it to keep it from getting snuffed.I lift the box off the ground on metal rods or somethink thin like broomsticks, otherwise the tub bottom stays cool from contact with the ground. I poke a meat thermometer thru the box and heat my good leather boots to 140+°. If the box is in the sun it heats up fast. I left it on 2 days one time accidently, the dryer was still working. I believe 4 hrs is sufficient to over heat and egg. Sassons have an auto kick down to low if they get too hot, I just leave it to bake bugs & eggs I need to kill. 140° is what they say will kill an egg. I tested many bugs in the hot box , they die in no time at 140. The bed I would toss. God bless you , Bill
