Small Worms In Basement

In the last few days our basement (new house) has been invaded by small black or dark brown worms. They are about an inch long or less. Seem to be coming in where the block foundation meets the basement slab. But have seen them in the garage and outside as well. What is easiest way to get rid of them. Have pets in the area.
