bedbugs

Moved into a place last weeks and it turns out it is infested with bedbugs. The house is old and full of cracks and we still have boxes that have yet to be unpacked do to lack of time. My landlord had an exterminator come out who treated the bedrooms in under an hour. My question is if it is even possible to treat for bedbugs in such a short period of time?
