pincher bug /scorpion?

About a two months ago my 2yr old kept waking up with raised red hardish bites on his body, after tearing apart his room we found what we thought to believe was a very very large pincher bug and proceeded to kill it. Last night on our screened in back patio I once again saw one of these creatures, after attempting to kill it I noticed that its back area that had the hook on it seemed to curl up like that of a scorpion, so now I am confused as to what this thing is. Are pincher bugs known to bite? How can I correctly identify a scorpion if need be? I live in Southern Florida (fyi). Any help is appreciated!
