large flies in house just now

5-6 days ago I saw two large flies in my kitchen but did nothing about it.

Now I have a couple dozen flying around, in/near kitchen but also everywhere else on main (kitchen) and 2nd (bedroom) floors.

We have several cats and I would like to be careful to use something which won't hurt food or cats or people, to get rid of the flies.

What would people suggest?
