: I have two cats that I have been pulling at least 5 large ticks off of them a week, I also have two dogs but i have not had such a problem with them. Last night I noticed black specks around both there eyes that you could barely even see. They were the tiniest ticks I have ever seen, and they both had 3 or 4 around their eyes, almost in their eyeballs, and then I found about 7 more at the corners of their mouths, ears and under their chins. They are so incredibly small, about HALF the size of this number- 0 - and they are so many of them, its disgusting. A page on the web said that a tick lays between 1,000-5,000 tick eggs at one time, and when they hatch they are very small. If what i am finding on my cats are baby ticks, then there could be thousands of them in or around my house! One of my cats is black so i cant tell if there are more on him, I dont know what to do. they have collars and powders that i just started to use, but i was wondering if anyone knew anything about what these "tiny ticks" really are, and what the best thing is to get rid of them. thankyou

Hello Jaclyn,

IF you haven't taken your pets to the vet, do so ASAP. You can get a sample of this "tick" (or other parasite) by using clear packing tape. It's not hard to do but use Scotch brand for I've used several and this worked best for me. Get the specimen on the tape, fold it over to "envelope it" and be sure note the squish it. Your vet will ID it. You've got one problem; if the pests are in your home you have to rid your place or your cats will just get reinfested, so ask the vet the best protocol. The thing that troubles me is, they sound more like mites than ticks. This is why you should get a sample. You've got a job cut out for you but it must be done correctly. Good luck.

Artie
