Definite maggots in carpet...

My 12 year old female cat developed diabetes recently. The disease blew a 7 pound cat into a 11.6 pound cat, all belly. I noticed she was having problems getting into the litter box. Instead, she was relieving herself (urine only) in the corner, on the carpet. I got her a handicapped pet box and all was good. I cleaned the spot as best I could, then, when I thought it was dry, I put the new box there so none of my other cats would smell whatever was left of her scent and go there to cover it. I started noticing small flies (like fruit flies you get when you leave fruit or food out to rot) some days later. I moved the box to vacuum and saw several large maggots under where the box was. I touched the carpet and found it was still damp. I cleaned it again, and noticed maggots down deep at the root of the carpet, along with small piles of very dark brown cocoons on the surface. Also, some strange looking creatures that I can only imagine are another stage, with hair-like things and also tiny maggots. After cleaning, I waited until it was dry and replaced the box again. Several days later I had tons more small flies and now some big, regular sized flies. I went to buy a carpet cleaner. Brought it home and moved the box to clean the entire carpet. I noticed more cocoons and 'skins'. Vacuumed well, then cleaned the heck out of it. Next day I checked. Found 3 really tiny alive maggots, and a bunch of the brown cocoons I'd seen before on top of the carpet, but this time I found them deep in the carpet, stuck inside the fibers. Also a few smaller, lighter brown (almost a yellow brown towards the center) oblong cocoons that didn't look empty like the others. Removed all I could find and cleaned again. Wondering what I can spray or add to the cleaner that will kill them. Flies driving me crazy, although very few left. Don't want to go through another life cycle though and am afraid of what they could do to my husband, my cats, or me. Also wondering if this is all stages of one life cycle and whether the small flies do become large normal flies? What should I do???
