I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that it's just lack of knowledge about bed bugs - AA is welcome to his opinion too :). They are extraordinarily difficult pests. From the ability to hide, to the unaffected eggs, to the extraordinary lifespan (1 year or more when not feeding), most other pests are much easier to deal with. They also *will* move to other rooms when their food source leaves, so your boyfriend is best to keep an eye out in other rooms and maybe consider even spraying them preventively - or asking the professional to do so.

They've also only recently started being a definite problem again and many professionals may have never or hardly ever dealt with them.

A professor in Pest Management at UMass sent me this, just so you have the full information:
------------
We just conducted a nationwide survey.

6% solve the problem "typically" in 1 application
26 % solve it in 2
36 solve it in 3
15 solve it in 4.
------------
Which leaves 17% for more than 4.

Finally, as for the products. I have absolutely no connection to this site, other than reading the boards and having ordered stuff a couple times. They do have some of the better prices I've seen. Also I find that to do a thorough treating of a room with the aerosol, it requires at least a full can - if you want to spray the whole bedframe, corners/heaters and mattresses and maybe some miscellaneous.

Also, just a note that the aerosol is fairly pungent. If you do want to spray with a strong product like these, you really should pick up a pesticide rated gas mask at Home Depot or something ($25ish).

If you don't want all these expenses, you can leave it to the professional. But after a month I got fed up and started (safely, but not cheaply) taking it into my own hands. I wish you better luck!
