Speaking with a professor of entomology, he once told me that 6% of cases are solved with one treatment. So it's possible, but unlikely. And I would bet those were minor cases that didn't last for 6 months.

The thing is, that there are still eggs around which are unaffected by the pesticides, and when they hatch (7-10 days later max) you'll have a new generation. Now, if there's a residual on the pesticides, those may die off fairly young and therby stop the problem, but they won't immediately.

Also, with the way they hide so very well, the initial application almost certainly did not get them all directly. So some will need to move over the pesticide for a little while before they too die off. All assuming he used something with a residual.

An exterminator who told you that he could solve it in one application is being incredibly optimistic and probably doesn't know what he's dealing with. Luckily for you, he gave you the guarantee.

I would insist on future spraying, or, do them yourself. There's a good but not cheap aerosol sold on this site that have purchased a bunch of, as well as Drione dust/duster you could consider.

Weekly or biweekly applications for at least a month is called for. I'm just over 2 months into a bedbug experience. I still saw some bugs up to 6 weeks into the process (5 weeks after when spraying started), but have been clear (and sleeping better) for the last 2.

You may want to avoid your boyfriend's place for a while and he may want to sleep on a sofa bed.
