Bedbugs for over six months

My boyfriend has had bedbugs for six months, but only a few weeks ago has he realized it. He wasn't getting any kind of reaction to their bites, but I was and thought it was simply an allergic reaction to something. Fortunately, they have not spread to other apartments or to my house, even though I've transported bags back to my place. An exterminator came today and sprayed the bed, walls and chairs. All his furniture is made of wood, therefore, they can pretty much hide anywhere. I can barely sleep at night anymore because I live in fear of them. Has anyone here had a successful story when an exterminator came once? There is a six month guarantee, but I'm dreading going anywhere near the bed anymore. Any tips on how to make sure they are gone?
