: : : : Miliions upon millions of these microscopic insects. At the base of my patio next to the house. They actually look like tiny metal shavings when you first see them. They move like crazy when disturbed. It appears they can jump also. They die on contact with bug killer. Any idea???? : : : : Thanks : : : : Please let me know if you find out what they are. : : Did they show up after heavy rain, and seem to congregate around the edges of buildings, posts, and in puddles? What kind of bug killer did you use?? : When you find out what these bugs are named, please let me know.We have a similar discription traveling on the floors and walls of one of our buildings. How did you eliminate them? When I got home tonight (it's been raining heavy off-and-on for the past 4 days) I discovered what looked like a pile of 'ashes' at the outside garage door; about 4" in diameter. I looked up to see if something had dropped on the ground. I bent to brush it with my hand and discovered it was moving. Hundreds-of-thousands, if not millions, of these SUPER tiny black things were jerking about. I don't know what they are, but I DO know they are not clover mights. I hit them with Seven Bug and Ant killer. It didn't phase 'em. Then I hit 'em with Spectracide Perimeter Control and they died instantly. I don't know if the Seven did the trick and it took some time, or the combo of the two. But they're all dead. Anyone know what these are? And, why would they be in a pile like that? They were on the metal threashold of the door with many on the base of the door.
