My mom spent the winter in Florida and while she was there picked up these mites. Her condo was infested with them; she tried all the commercial products, raid, frontline, tea tree oil, permethrin, etc. Nothing worked. She came back to NY and brought them with her-her apartment is contaminated and she is worse than ever. Before we realized she was still contagious, she spent a few hours at my house--now my family room sofa and rug are full of them, and I've got them in my hair, eyebrows and on my arms--though neither my son or husband seem to be affected. I had the rug taken away for 2 weeks to be cleaned--a professional steam cleaning of all the upolstered furniture did no good.

Last night a friend found this website for me: http://www.dermatechrx.com/scabies/ that describes all the symptoms all of us are experiencing and methods to debug yourself and your house. The site says there are over 30 variety of mites (scabies is just one of them) and this treatment should work for any. It will arrive tomorrow--I will let you know what results we get. But check out the website--it is full of info and they will respond quickly to your emailed questions. Good luck!
