(Help Identify) Weird Bug Bite that Caused considerable pain

One of my friends was bitten on his foot by a strange bug that I am having trouble identifying. The bug was brown I know that for sure but everything else I can't remmeber, anyways the bite on his foot began to sting him and then caused his leg muscles to tighten and spasm casuing him considerable pain, bringing him to tears. This went on for 3 minutes or so and stopped leaving a irritated red area and what looked to be an small (about 1 mm) hole where the bug had bitten. He didn't hvae any other symptoms related to this bite, so I would like to know if anyone could tell me what this bug is please I've looked every where on the net and can't find an answer.
