My family and I moved recently. I noticed water damage in upstairs bathroom around the outside corner of the tub/shower, while I was cleaning the floor tiles and a few fell through the floor. I was very mad! So, I went downstairs and looked up at the ceiling...sure enough...fresh paint in that location. I gently pushed up on that area of ceiling and went through! I was really mad by this time. So, I called every contractor / plumber in area...no one would even come out to even give me an estimate. The water started dripping every time shower was used. Did not know if pipe in wall or what. So, one day I said "can not take this anymore". I started taking apart the whole shower, which I had no idea what I was doing. Well, I found the leakage.....the faucet handle apparatus was never cauked and the "sticky ring" behind apparatus that was to prevent leakage was worn or defective. So, replaced that and recauked EVERYTHING! No more leak! Then, we started getting some very small, black, thin worms which are always located in the one corner on the top of tub, in the corner by the shower surround corner. I was ill at the sight. I would use full strength bleach and would rid, but not for very long. I have never had this problem before. Today, they were back. I thoroughly examined area again and noticed one very micro area where I missed cauking...seems they are coming from around that spot. bleach because this also kills black mold, if any back there, and dry thoroughly and recaulk the area again. I have never seen coming up from the drain, so I believe they are somewhere behind the tub/stall where there has or is any slight water leakage. When we had the "Unknown" water leakage and I discovered the damaged floor, I noticed a few flies that looked like small black jet-shaped flies that seemed to come up from the damaged floor area...so sprayed some bleach and since fixed have not seen around. I will also pour full strength bleach down the drains also, which I do regularly anyway. My point........caulk around EVERYTHING (except overflow). Make sure no micro spaces, cracks, etc......where slight water could leak....water is very damaging over time, growsBlack Mold, which can be very dangerous and can even Kill people, not to mention the tiny microorganisms may be breeding, along with those nasty black worms. I hope this helps everyone and my family also. I have been going crazy with this bathroom ever since we moved here...nice people they were. I am female and my husband works mega hours, so I am the one to take care of many things, although I usually do not really know what I am doing! Its a real pain, but will be worth your time..........RECAULK AND DO WELL.
