brown "worms" that bite or sting

My friend told me she found some worms in her bed. She said they are thin and brown and wriggle/crawl fast and sting or bite. Some were larger than others, all were small, around an inch. The larger ones, though, had a dark crusty surface. No legs. She has cats. Any ideas?
