Hi All, I have had bird mites for about a month. I didn't know what it was at first, and was treated for scabies. That treatment didn't work after three tries. Even though I thought I had done a thorough search of our premises, I found two bird nests in an area under our deck that had an access of about 1-1/2 inches. We got the nests out yesterday and burned them. I then treated the area with Ortho Home Defense (with Bifenthrin) and also my windows and doors leading out to the deck. I have been trying a different approach to getting some sleep. I have to give the credit to William the Great (WTG) He suggested using a mixture of noxema and ben gay (the arthritis cream). Menthol of any strengh will work. I used listerine at first. Be careful if you try this method, the ben gay will burn the foo out of you if you mix it at too high a rate, especially for cildren. WTG suggested 50% of each. I would start out with less and test it on your foot before using it over your whole body. The only drawback is that I have these things in my hair and ears. I can't stand wearing ear plugs and don't know how to keep them out of my hair. The menthol will feel very cool and has worked for me for about 5 to 6 hours at a time. I am then awoken from the crawling and have to reapply. But, that's more sleep than I have been getting lately, so I won't complain! My fear is that this infestation has gone on too long to be able to just spray and be done with it. I think there are lots of them and they have taken up residence in our bedroom carpet and bed. We have no children, but we do have a dog. I am bathing her tomorrow and hope that she doesn't have them. I worry about pesticides around her also. The more I read about bird mites, the more I wonder if this will ever end. They hide in cracks and crevices after they munch on you for dinner, and I don't know how an insecticide spray can kill them if it doesn't actually touch them. I don't want to use insecticide on my body again. I finally got a few specimins in scotch tape. Now my hubby doesn't think I am crazy. They don't like him! They love to hang out in my shoes and in my hair. When they feed, they feed with a vengence, but not every night. They just crawl around on me every night. I have been putting everything in the freezer that I can't wash, which seems to help. I hope my experience with this helps. Good luck to everyone
